Our Story

Hi there, our names are Chelsea & Nick and we're so glad you found your way here - to a tiny slice of the internet that holds the story of something meaningful we're building as a family.

We initially met on the dance floor at a mutual friend's wedding and, through the years, we're realizing how much dancing can have in common with the paths we walk in life. On the dance floor, there is no singular, straight line that we all follow. No one right way to move. Instead, there are steps forward and there are steps back.  And, especially for the bravest of dancers, there is a tendency to let your heart lead the way. That's what we're doing here at Bleu June.

Nick spent â€‹almost 15 years in the corporate IT world and Chelsea is going on 18 years working in public interest at the intersection of youth advocacy within the legal system, education and restorative justice. And now, in this season of life, we're excited to birth a new path into existence as we build a family business rooted in the idea that we can construct something meaningful with our hands as an expression of love and creativity for our community.

As so often can happen when we have the spaciousness to reflect on the pebbles the universe has left for us along the way, we might notice the ways we've been prepared for a new path to emerge. This has been the case for Nick. Since he was a high schooler, shortly after losing his Dad, he's been his family's handyman. He went from being his family's fixer to the go-to-guy to call when his friends and extended family needed some help getting things done around the house. Soon thereafter, his loved ones and friends of friends began asking him to build their dreams into reality. Nick turned his basement and, later, his garage into a woodworking space as he started building custom pieces for his community of people, ranging from backyard decks to home bars, playrooms, Murphy beds, desks, built-ins and more. His own desire to learn more about working with his hands, coupled with the encouragement and mentorship of elder family members, created the opportunity for Nick to spend the last decade and a half building his knowledge and fine-tuning his craft. He's excited to offer this passion of his to the greater community.

Bleu June is named after our littlest loves, our first two kids, and was conceived of at the same time we became pregnant with our last little one. Our hope is that Bleu June can be an expression of beliefs we'd like to instill in our children, including the notion that we can and we should venture off our paths to explore anew; that there is incredible value in dreaming something up and then using our own hands to build that dream; and that small, family created businesses still have an important place in this world. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
