Our Story

Hi there, we're Chelsea & Nick and we're so glad you found your way here - to a tiny slice of the internet that holds the story of something we're building as a family. A small local business that cares about creating custom pieces that bring warmth, creativity and ingenuity to your space.

Chelsea & Nick initially met on the dance floor at a friend's wedding and, over the years, we've noticed how much dancing can have in common with the paths we walk in life. Like the allure of seeing someone bravely putting it all out there as they follow their heart. That's what we're trying to do here at Bleu June.

The universe has been conspiring to nudge Nick toward a path of working with his hands. After losing his Dad in middle school, he became his family's default handyman and, later, his college buddies'. For over a decade, while working his day job, Nick experimented with building custom pieces for his friends and family, ranging from backyard decks to home bars, playrooms, Murphy beds, desks, built-ins and more. Soon his basement and, later, his garage were converted into woodworking spaces. In 2025 Nick took the plunge to pursue something that lights him up. After 15 years in the corporate IT world, Nick now gets to use his project management experience and attention to planning, precision and detail to create custom pieces that bring our clients' visions to life. Nick recently became a General Contractor and is waiting on the official paperwork to come through.

Chelsea has two decades of experience working at the intersection of transformative justice, direct legal advocacy, and education reform. She's been a high school teacher; juvenile defense attorney; and restorative justice practitioner. Chelsea continues to lead youth yoga classes, Women's Circles and retreats in the Twin Cities. She brings a fiery passion to the visioning and behind-the-scenes work of Bleu June. And, as someone that has worked well beyond the edges of burnout, she cares deeply about creating safe sanctuary spaces for homes. Chelsea has personally experienced the transformative benefit of regular saunaing on her physical wellbeing and mental health and hopes for more backyard saunas for all - an intentional space where neighbors and family can come together to practice wellness and deeper connection in community.

Together, Nick and Chelsea are the husband and wife team behind Bleu June.

Bleu June is a combination of our two oldest boys' middle names. We conceived of this family business while pregnant with our third son. Due to a string of surprising life circumstances, we suddenly found ourselves presented with an opportunity to take a leap into a dream we'd only whispered about at night. Just weeks before our last son was born, we launched Bleu June and our hope is that Bleu June can be an expression of beliefs we'd like to instill in our children, including the notion that we can and we should venture off our paths to explore anew; that there is incredible value in dreaming something up and then using our own hands to build that dream; and that small, family created businesses still have an important place in this world. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
